Kahui Project

Central Kalimantan, Borneo

The Kahui Project is a youth-led movement that educates young people in forest protection via sustainable ecotourism. Situated in a remote transmigration area, near the city of Palangka Raya these communities are surrounded by sand mining, so Kahui mobilises local youth to restore abandoned industrial sites. This restoration effort involves planting a variety of native trees, fruit and flowers to rejuvenate the area and safeguard pollinators within the ecosystem. The Kahui project merges forest protection and ecosystem restoration with sustainable tourism, aiming to contribute to economic improvement in the region.
