Sungai Udang Village

Seruyan Regency, Borneo

Sungai Udang village is a fishing community grappling with the impacts of the climate crisis and situated in the coastal Seruyan regency of Central Kalimantan. Confronted with the challenge of flooding twice per month, these events not only wreak havoc on their homes but also pose a threat to their shrimp and fish ponds. In response to these challenges, the community has taken the initiative to establish a mangrove plantation as a protective measure for their coastal ecosystem and, by extension, their livelihoods. Spanning approximately 17 kilometers along the coastal area, their ambitious goal is to plant 100,000 mangroves.
